SwRI Opens Registration On Machinery Short Courses

11 April 2018

The Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) has opened registration on six machinery courses that it will host throughout the year. The nonprofit organization, which provides contract research and development services, has five paid courses and one complimentary webinar available. The five paid courses are all located at SwRI’s facility on 6220 Culebra Road in San Antonio, Texas.

The first course, Pulsations & Vibrations: Analysis and Testing serves as an introduction on applied pulsation, vibration problem solving and failure mitigation. It takes place from April 18-20. The free webinar, Field Services: Pulsation and Vibration Problem Solving For All Applications, offers an overview of applicable field services to address machinery issues in the oil and gas industry. The webinar runs from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.

The next short course, which runs for three-and-a-half days from Aug. 21-24, features an introduction to propulsion simulation using NPSS, a modeling software. Attendees will get to explore the simulation software with hands-on exercises on seven modules.

A two-day short course follows on Oct. 23-24 on the fundamentals of turbomachinery failure analysis. The class discusses the basics of analysis types used when determining the root cause of failures in turbomachinery. The longest course, Nov. 12-16, pairs attendees with gas turbine and compressor experts. Through the class, attendees learn how to properly operate this machinery.

The final course, Lateral and Torsional Rotordynamics for Centrifugal and Reciprocating Machinery, is an introductory two-day class covering rotordynamics, vibration measurement and balancing concerts. It runs from Dec. 4-5.

For more information or to register for any of the courses, contact Dorothea Martinez at +1 (210) 522-3045 or visit SwRI’s website at www.swri.org.
