The Gas Training Association (GTA), which was founded in 2008 to enhance knowledge and training in the natural gas industry, is being dissolved effective at the end of 2024.
To ensure the sustainability and accessibility of the critical resources developed by GTA, the group’s board also voted to license its educational content to the Southern Gas Association (SGA), facilitating ongoing workforce development through the established programs of SGA.
“This decision, while difficult, is rooted in our commitment to sustaining the high-quality training that has been the hallmark of the Gas Training Association,” said Gary Hines, Board Chair of GTA. “By aligning with the Southern Gas Association, we ensure that our educational resources will not only continue to be available but will also be enhanced through SGA’s established framework. Our priority is to see the technical staff in our industry benefit from the comprehensive training that has been developed over the years.”
As part of the transition, SGA will receive a perpetual, non-exclusive license to all GTA-developed content, valued at over $1.5 million. SGA has also committed to reinvesting a portion of the revenue generated from GTA’s courses into the ongoing development and enhancement of these training materials for a minimum of four years.
The GTA board will ensure that current members and stakeholders are kept informed throughout the dissolution process, which is expected to be completed by December 2024. Key training programs will be incorporated into SGA’s Learning Management System certificates and other available programs and will continue to support the industry’s need for skilled professionals.
“The Southern Gas Association is honored to integrate the Gas Training Association’s rich educational content into our programs, said Suzanne Ogle, President & CEO of SGA. “We are committed to preserving the integrity and quality of GTA’s resources, ensuring they remain accessible to industry professionals. This collaboration underscores our shared dedication to advancing training and professional development across the natural gas industry. Together, we can innovate and expand the reach of these vital resources.”
