Chart receives helium, carbon sequestration project

Dry Piney Project in Wyoming

Chart today announced selection by Blue Spruce Operating LLC to provide the Nitrogen Rejection Unit and helium process technology and associated equipment for their Dry Piney Helium and Carbon Sequestration Project to be located in Sublette County, WY.

Chart Industries has been selected by Blue Spruce Operating LLC to provide critical technology and equipment for the Dry Piney Helium and Carbon Sequestration Project in Sublette County, Wyoming. The partnership highlights Chart’s expertise in cryogenic processing and positions the company as a key player in the production of bulk liquid helium and natural gas, as well as CO2 sequestration.

The Dry Piney Project, which recently completed its front-end engineering and design phase, is poised to become a significant contributor to both the helium and natural gas markets. Once fully operational, it is expected to produce over 800 million cubic feet per year of bulk liquid helium, 80 million cubic feet per day (MMcfpd) of natural gas, and sequester up to 4.5 million metric tons of CO2 annually. The project will run on two separate gas processing trains, enhancing its capacity and sustainability.

Chart Industries’ CEO and President, Jill Evanko, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are pleased to partner with Blue Spruce Operating on this innovative and large-scale project. We look forward to delivering it on-time in the next two years and supporting its operations for decades to come.”

Brad Gentry, Vice President of Midstream at Blue Spruce Operating, emphasized Chart’s role in the project, noting, “Chart Industries is an industry leader in cryogenic technologies. Their specialized technology will allow us to effectively separate, recover, and liquefy helium to purity grade, which is crucial for meeting the needs of our global customers.”

This partnership is a strategic move for both companies, with Blue Spruce Operating progressing toward a final investment decision for the project. The collaboration ensures that Blue Spruce will become a significant domestic supplier of bulk liquid helium and natural gas, contributing to the growing energy demands of the western U.S. Opal Hub market.
