Power Briefing recap: week of Oct. 21
25 October 2024
With October rapidly drawing to a close, here’s what you might have missed in Power Briefing this week:
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are gaining traction in a variety of applications, including on construction sites, where they are replacing traditional gen-sets. Hassan Obeid of Cummins authored a new whitepaper about BESS that outlined the key concepts you should be aware of.
- Outboard engines are used in a variety of commercial marine applications. Unlike many that are adapted from automotive engines, Suzuki Marine said it makes their outboards specifically for marine use. That allows Suzuki to specifically address issues of fuel consumption and emissions.
- The first week of October saw the 6th annual Power Progress Summit come to fruition. An international audience heard from a number of industry speakers on the topic of digitalization and decarbonization. Despite that central theme, three key topics emerged in many a presentation.
- Depending upon who you talk to, AI will either be a blessing or a curse. Many are wondering how it can help take over thankless chores and free us up to do more important tasks. Bluewhite has partnered with New Holland to do just that — using AI to bring autonomy to tractors in certain ag applications.
Other news revealed that John Deere is expanding its ag and turf equipment training facility, new CNG stations are opening in Canada and the president of Volvo Group will deliver a keynote at CES 2025.
