PCB Piezotronics Completes Clean Room Facility
03 January 2020
PCB Piezotronics, Inc., a subsidiary of MTS Systems Corp., has completed the construction of its US$1 million clean room facility, located at the company’s Walden Avenue headquarters in Depew, New York. The 4300 sq.ft. (399 m2) facility is dedicated to the company’s pressure and force sensor manufacturing and assembly operations.
PCB Piezotronics designs and manufactures microphones, vibration, pressure, force, torque, load and strain sensors, as well as ICP technology used by design engineers and predictive maintenance professionals worldwide. The facility features a 1200 sq.ft. (111 m2) room for sensor elements and critical assembly construction. The humidity-controlled room meets or exceeds the ISO Class 7 cleanliness standard and contains laminar flow benches and high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtered fume extractors among other clean room equipment.
A second clean room is allocated for final product assembly and calibration processes. The 3100 sq.ft. (288 m2) space has the same features of its smaller counterpart, albeit with stricter humidity controls to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to electrical components.
PCB Piezotronics expects the facility will improve its operations by offering higher efficiencies, increased throughput and improved quality and delivery.
“We are very proud of this new … facility and our continuous improvement initiatives to provide higher performing, quality sensor products,” said David T. Hore, PCB Piezotronics’ president.
