Siemens Energy Partners With Security Policy Forum
15 December 2020
Siemens Energy will be the main partner of the Munich Security Conference, a leading international security policy forum, highlighting the importance of tackling the energy issues which threaten global security.
As part of the partnership Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of Siemens AG and chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens Energy AG, will be serving as the chairman of the Advisory Council to the Munich Security Conference.
In addition, Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy AG, will be appointed chairman of the Security Innovation Board. The members of the newly founded Board will be announced at next year’s Munich Security Conference.
Climate change is one of the greatest existential threats to humanity, evidenced in recent years by an amplification of global warming, as well as increased frequency and severity of natural disasters such as floods, fires, and storms, the conference said. The urgent development and implementation of solutions is required before the economic, social and health impacts become too severe and ultimately irreparable.
“Climate change, energy access and energy security are in the spotlight of international attention,” Bruch said. “As a global energy company at the forefront of the energy transformation, focused on energizing society, in a decarbonizing, efficient and affordable way, Siemens Energy is ideally placed to partner with the Munich Security Conference.”
Although progress is being made, challenges persist. Global energy demand continues to grow, and around 800 million people still lack access to electricity. In many cases decarbonizing solutions are economically still unfavorable. Energy security and access to energy need to be addressed, requiring geopolitical as well as technological solutions. But even as technology advances and interconnectedness increases, a range of new challenges emerges. With greater reliance on digitalization, physical and cyber security for energy assets is increasingly a concern.
The Munich Security Conference is an excellent forum in which to build collaboration and develop a framework to create and apply the solutions to humanity’s greatest threats, Siemens said.
Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman Munich Security Conference: “We are very pleased to have gained Siemens Energy as a new partner for the Munich Security Conference. As an international driver of innovation and transformation processes, Siemens Energy is an excellent partner for the topics of the future at the Munich Security Conference.”
