Liquefaction plant set to start production in 2023
Burckhardt Compression received an order for two compressors for a hydrogen liquefaction plant in South Korea. The order includes two BCS API618 compressors for compressing hydrogen within the liquefaction process.
The compressors are part of two fully skidded packages with 136 kW and 1800 kW power outputs. Both packages include an electrical motor, PLC control and auxiliary components. The compressor system will be used to increase the pressure of the supplied hydrogen from atmospheric pressure to 870 psi (60 bar). Because hydrogen compression for mobility and liquefaction applications must be oil-free, Burckhardt Compression will use non-lubricated piston and packing sealing systems.
The new liquefaction plant is part of the country’s strategy to develop clean energy. It will be able to produce 5 t/d of liquefied hydrogen for hydrogen charging stations in South Korea. The liquefaction plant is scheduled to start production in 2023.
