Major LNG facility coming online

Venture Global announces start date for Calcasieu Pass facility

Venture Global said its Calcasieu Pass facility will commence commercial operations on April 15.

The facility will achieve its commercial operation date, or COD, in under 68 months from its August 2019 final investment decision, despite substantial impacts including two hurricanes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and major unforeseen manufacturing issues, such as with the Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) forming part of the facility’s power island.

Venture Global said its Calcasieu Pass facility will commence commercial operations on April 15.

The project site is on the Calcasieu Ship Channel at the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico featuring deep-water access, proximity to plentiful gas supplies and ease of transport for buyers. Once complete, the plant is expected to export at least 10 MTPA of LNG.

The 432 acre site is proximate to several major interstate and intrastate natural gas pipelines and directly accesses the most attractive gas resource basins in North America.

The facility includes a pretreatment unit, an 18-train liquefaction system, two 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks, two vessel loading berths, and a 700-megawatt 5×2 combined cycle power island that is supplemented with an additional 25-megawatt turbine.
