The mission of the Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium (GSRMS) is to provide the oil & gas industry with a resource of technical and hands-on training as well as technical discussions and presentations.
This year’s show runs April 22-24 in Baton Rouge, La. Dennis Schaibly is serving as president of the GSRMS. After receiving a BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of South Florida in 1976, Schaibly spent his career in the sales and service of large rotating equipment. He has worked with many equipment areas, including electric motors, compressors of all types and sizes, process mechanicals seals and associated support systems.
He has worked for several major OEMs including Ingersoll-Rand, Kaydon Ring & Seal and Elliott Turbo-Machinery in both sales and service roles. He currently works at the New Orleans Repair Shop for Elliott Group as a senior service sales engineer. COMPRESSORTECH2 spoke with Schaibly about the show and the state of the industry.
What are the top issues facing the GSRMS and, by extension, the industry it serves?
I believe that the top issue we face in the “Technical Symposium/Trade show” world is a hard paradigm shift in the way end users view networking. The older generations of equipment engineers are steeped in the process of sharing best practices with peers without exposing trade secrets.
